Humanscape

Film - 2022 / 12 min

Humanscape is a short film that explores the intense relationship between metropolitan life and the natural environment. Urban conditions, ecological habitats, and anatomical niches in human bodies overlap, engendering their own actors, unique events, and emergent narratives. Dunes, human organs, and technological cables interweave at the curious locale known as humanscape, expressing the pluripotency of life in a thousand and one manifestations. The primary questions that the film explores include: are natural and built environments two opposing dimensions in constant struggle with each other, or are they different expressions of one and the same continuum? What is at stake in the gradual blurring of the distinction between human and nonhuman life? What kind of potentials and problems await us, now that natural and technological productions are more and more fusing into one another and becoming hybridized? And in the light of all these peculiar interactions, what does it mean, finally, to be human?
